Annual Report 2023

The Global Health Security Initiative (GHSI) has continued its critical work of strengthening health security by continuing to advance its core mandate through ongoing preparedness and response against chemical, biological, radio-nuclear (CBRN), as well as pandemic respiratory viruses threats to health.

In-person meetings of the Global Security Action Group (GHSAG) in London (March) and of the Coordination and Liaison Committee (CLC) in Ottawa (November) highlighted the value of meeting face-to-face to further collaborate on various topics of interest in this close and trusted network. A succinct forward-looking plan was then developed to address priority areas such as: exercising the Event Management Response Framework (EMRF), preparing documents on Medical Countermeasures sharing for CBRN incidents, monitoring the ongoing Ukraine Crisis, and information sharing on infectious disease outbreaks such as Mpox, Avian flu, and Pneumonia in Children. The rapid sharing of information has helped facilitate several discussions on response and preparedness within the Global Health Security landscape. The Strategic Framework of the GHSI was revised and approved for the next five year period, along with other documents of corporate governance.

The working groups and networks are the technical backbone of the GHSI. They continued their ongoing work which included the development of crucial guidance documents and Frameworks, as well as sustaining regular information flow and sharing of best practices on core topics. The GHSI continues to remain committed to collaboration between member countries, international partners, and the working groups/networks to help maintain this valuable trusted network.
